For a cheapo macro experience why not try the <a href="http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/dcr/dcr250/indexdcr250eg.htm" rel="nofollow">Raynox converters</a>? Also, for macro photography, unless you are a taichi master capable of keeping absolutely still while clicking the camera, a tripod is compulsory :) Don't bother with the cheapo ones though.
